The Three Michelin Stars
The Michelin guide of France 2021 features thirty- three-starred restaurants featuring the new entrant Alexandre Mazzia in Marseille. This talented chef uses local produce to create the most magnificent cuisines from around the world. His culinary expedition is inspired by his childhood memories from Congo. He dazzles his guests with the most unexpected cuisines and flavorful tasting combinations that flourished him to achieve the respected three Michelin star awards.
Upon receiving the Michelin star Mazze said "I am very moved. I think of my wife, of Marco my second, who is more of a brother in arms, and my team. Today I am proud to say that I am a cook,"
Two Michelin Stars
The Michelin guide of France caters to 74 restaurants that are awarded the two Michelin stars. Two new entrants Marsan led by Hélène Darroze and La Merise led by Cédric Decker have joined the award. Chef Hélène Darroze is a well-established name in the culinary art and has achieved a second two-star rating. Along with her two-star London restaurant, Hélène Darroze at The Connaught, her central Parisian restaurant is also awarded by the prestigious two stars this year. Darozze cherishes her culinary roots from Les Landes while tantalizing it from Southwest France. She always delivers precision and passion through her contemporary style of culinary art.
Darroze encouraged women and her team by saying "I say bravo to my teams, all those who have worked with me on Marsan but also on the other restaurants. It is not always an easy job for a woman but you have to live your passion and especially not let it pass".
The second restaurant that made it to the list is La Merise restaurant in Laubach, by chef Cédric Deckert. The chef brings out the best of classic French cuisines at hotel La Merise.
The chef was moved and said "It's a total surprise; we try to honor our terroir, our local products, our suppliers. I am deeply convinced that the character of a chef is reflected in the plate''
One Michelin Star
In 2021, a massive 534 restaurants were included in the one Michelin star category out of which 54 were newly awarded. These new additions confirm the gastronomic culture of France at best.
The director of the guide applauded these new restaurants by saying "a highlight in the life of a restaurant, which is part of this great family of talents who make the reputation of world gastronomy".
The prestigious Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region took top awards featuring twelve of its restaurants earning a Michelin star for the first time this year.
In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, ten new restaurants were awarded their first Michelin stars, closely followed by four venues in Occitania and Centre-Val de Loire.
The youngest Chef
The award for the youngest chef in 2021 was bestowed upon the 25-year-old Guillaume Guibet who has revived his family restaurant Le Verbois in Saint-Maximin. Guibets specialty lies in the fusion of flavors from the restaurant’s Picardy roots with contrasting Asian influences to create a unique culinary experience. Food lovers can enjoy Guillaume Scheer’s delicious cuisine at Michelin-starred Les Plaisirs Gourmands in Schiltigheim. On the western coast, fine diners can savor their taste buds of Breton at Moulin de Rosmadec in Pont-Aven, handled by Chef Sébastien Martinez.
The Green Star
The food inspectors have been applauding restaurants that work towards sustainable gastronomy and award them a Michelin green star. This year 33 new restaurants were added to this category joining the other 50 restaurants awarded last year.
Spectacular Ceremony
The 2021 ceremony for the Michelin Guide France was broadcasted online for the first time in history. The red guide winners were unveiled online through a YouTube video that was broadcasted especially from the Eiffel Tower.
